Abbas was born in Iran but considers himself a 'citizen of the third world'. Since 1970 his work as a professional photographer has taken him to Biafra, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ireland and Ethiopia. His coverage of war, famine and social revolution and his courage have earned him an international reputation as a photojournalist.
From 1974 to 1981 he worked with the GAMMA agency and is now an Associate member of Magnum. in 1978-9 he worked exclusively in Iran, covering the Iranian Revolution. The book which resulted, Iran - La Revolutions Confisquée, suceeds in capturing the hope and disappointment of that turbulent period.
The exhibition will consist of photograohs from some of the major stories on which he worked during the 1970's. His photographs encapsulate the history of the last decade and provide and insight into some of the significant upheavals of that time.
