With the global disappearance and transformation of our natural environment, we question the histories and decisions that brought us to the current climate disaster in this talk featuring one of this year’s Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize nominee Anastasia Samoylova and researcher and public works co-founder Dr Torange Khonsari. Moderated by writer and author Henry Carroll.

Biographies

Henry Carroll is the author of ten books published in more than 22 languages. His titles include the bestselling Read This If You Want To Take Great Photographs series, Photographers on Photography and the Photographs That Make you Think series. His latest book Land is published by Abrams in April 2022. Henry graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2005 and now lives in Los Angeles.

Dr Torange Khonsari is the Co-Founder and Director of the urbanism, public art and architecture practice Public Works. Torange uses art and design as a form of inquiry and design intervention as forms of new urban imaginary. Torange currently teaches a post-graduate and doctoral course titled Design for Cultural Commons at London Metropolitan University, and recently completed a five-year consultancy for the Mayor of London’s Specialist Assistant Team for community engagement in regeneration. Torange has been invited to be one of the 9 Design for Planet fellows at the Design Council in 2021/22.

Anastasia Samoylova is an American artist who moves between observational photography, studio practice and installation. By utilizing tools and strategies related to digital media and commercial photography, her work explores notions of environmentalism, consumerism and the picturesque.
