This Screen Walk with artist Maya Man provided a behind-the-scenes look at the development and online life of her browser extension Glance Back. Glance Back is a daily photo diary, capturing the moments shared between you and your computer.
With this extension installed, once a day at random, when you open a new tab, Glance Back will quickly snap a photo of you and inquire: “What are you thinking about?” The photo and recorded thought are collectively saved, creating an archive of moments you share with your screen. First released in 2018, Glance Back now has over ten thousand daily users worldwide. In this session, Man discussed the browser extension as an artistic medium, ideas around authenticity online, and her reflections on this ongoing, networked performance practice.
